[+] BELLE ISLE ZOO MASTER PLAN
Creating an exciting opportunity to experience native flora and fauna in the heart of the city, this project provides master planning for the Belle Isle Nature Zoo. The zoo’s existing nature center was completely renovated with the addition of fresh exhibits and programming including native Michigan wildlife exhibits such as cougar and black bear. A new exhibit brings attention to endangered Michigan turtle species and provides areas for breeding in a natural habitat. Boardwalks, lookouts and interpretive information points, connect the zoo’s 5-acre parcel to 200 acres of adjacent wooded wetland.
HAA worked with the Detroit Zoological Society to develop a Master Plan for a new Nature Zoo on Historic Belle Isle. The existing nature center shall be completed renovated with new exhibits and programming. Outdoor exhibits will include native Michigan wildlife such as deer, cougar and black bear. A turtle exhibit will bring attention to endangered turtles and provide areas for breeding in a natural habitat. Boardwalks, lookouts and interpretive information will connect the 5-acre parcel to the adjacent 200 acre wooded wetland creating an exciting opportunity to experience native Michigan flora and fauna in the heart of the city. The Deer Exhibit is phase1 of the Belle Isle Nature Zoo was completed in 2006.
