To assist in the execution of Phase 2 of their Lawndale Station Project, Southwest Housing Corporation selected HAA.  Located at the far west end of Vernor Highway, about a half mile from the Detroit/Dearborn border, it is part of an investment in five buildings clustered within a three block radius.  The project makes a substantial impact on the most active commercial corridor in Southwest Detroit.  Built in 1923, the historic Ferndale Apartments contains 34 apartment units and the new 7,500 square foot Campbell branch of the Detroit Public Library.  The building is designated historic by the State of Michigan. As design architect, careful attention was paid to preserving the original character of the building, while at the same time appealing to the modern needs of potential tenants.  We believe our final design walks this difficult balance and in addition meets difficult budgetary constraints.  Our duties include working with numerous funding sources from MSHDA to provide capital funds in the preparation of architectural and site schematic design, design development and construction documents, guiding the plans through city and state approvals and providing construction administration services as the owner's representative.  The estimated construction cost is $4.1 million.
