The design for the new library at Grand Valley State University highlights the site’s dynamic topography. Unique student spaces emphasize the building entrances. Terraced seating, elegantly blended steps and sloped walks are sculptural while providing universal access. The lower plaza, with permeable modular pavers, takes advantage of the adjacent rain garden as its focal point. Storm water that overflows the on-site infiltration capacity is carried to a campus-wide storm water pond and created wetland. The overall project aspires to a LEED Platinum rating and will serve as an educational tool for students and the larger community.
