Working with business owners and the City to think of the site as an important connector for transit and a destination for people and business, HAA developed realistic ideas that business owners realized would benefit their bottom line. HAA studied existing land uses and users, current policies and zoning, transit, street conditions, as well as case studies, and best practices from peer communities. The team also studied product mix and development strategies to ensure West Dearborn continues building toward a critical mass of residents, amenities, and jobs in order to develop into a higher performing, walkable urban place.
The plan accommodates and programs for all users in an intimate, social setting. Recommendations provide the vision and steps for West Village Drive to become a new mixed-use, multi-modal environment that is both a destination and a vibrant connector.
