Elton Park, which is named after the 19-century park that was located at Elizabeth and 5th Street, aims to offer a diversity of housing types, architectural aesthetics, historic preservation strategies and unit costs. The project is designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of current and future neighborhood residents.
The first task was to create a master plan for the blocks around the property to understand the redevelopment potential. The neighborhood plan includes the area bound by Trumbull to the west, Michigan Avenue to the south, the Lodge Freeway to the east and I-75 to the north.
The first phase consisted of four multifamily residential buildings over retail space and four townhouses at the corner of Elizabeth and 8th Streets. The project also included necessary improvements to the adjacent parking lots to accommodate parking for the proposed developments.
Elton Park also includes improvements within the street right of way along Eighth and Elizabeth. This phase includes collaborating with Quinn Evans, the architect for the adaptive reuse of the existing Checker Cab Building into 100 apartment units.
